Accommodation and Support

International Student Support
Our International Office and the Advice Zone is here to support you and we understand that it can be difficult to settle into a new culture. We are here to make the transition as easy as possible.

We will provide the following:

  • Visa application Advice/Guidance
  • Airport pick up if required
  • Assistance with banking
  • College enrolment
  • Registering with a doctor, dentist and the police (if applicable)
  • Introductions to relevant tutors and other staff
  • Arranging social activities
  • English language support
  • Environment familiarisation
  • Welfare support

At the beginning of your course you will meet your academic guidance tutor and your student adviser who will explain about the services they offer and answer any questions you may have.

Accommodation
Moving to a new country is a major step and we are happy to offer advice and assistance in securing good, safe accommodation in our local area. Our recommended accommodation is “host family accommodation”. This means living with a landlady or a landlord. This is a person who owns the accommodation and will live there with you. We think this is the best type of accommodation because you can speak English in your house and learn about our culture. This is a valuable part of your learning about Scotland, its people and our language.

The cost of “host family accommodation” varies but is normally from £480 - £550 per month. These costs will be set by your landlady/landlord on arrival and you will know how much it will cost before you move in. The cost is for either sharing a room (depending on the size), or a single room. All your meals are included (except mid-day meal on week days) and you will also receive clean towels and bed linen. You will be required to pay a deposit and one weeks’ rent in advance when you arrive at your accommodation.

If you prefer to share a flat with other students you will be responsible for paying all your bills. This will include gas, electricity, central heating and telephone bills. Whilst we cannot arrange this type of accommodation for you the College can provide you with a brief guide to renting private accommodation.
